Voter Information

Are you on the Voters List?

The voters' list is a list of eligible electors in the Municipality of Dutton Dunwich.  The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is responsible for preparing the preliminary list of electors for each municipality and school board in Ontario.  It is MPAC’s Municipal Property Assessment database of both property owners and tenants that is used to prepare this preliminary list, which aids in the preparation of the final voters' list for Election Day.

Electors may add their name or make changes directly on MPACs Voterlookup Website.  The website is easy to use.  Go to the website, select "I Agree" at the bottom on the page.  All you need is your property address or assessment roll number and your full name and date of birth.

Who Cannot Vote?

  • serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution; or
  • a corporation; or
  • acting as executor or trustee or in another representative capacity, except as a voting proxy; or
  • convicted of a corrupt practice described in Section 90(3) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996

Identification to Vote

Identification (ID) is needed when you go to vote. Remember to bring one piece of ID showing your name and qualifying Municipal address. Your Voter Information Card or Notice of Approval cannot be used as a piece of ID.

  • If you do not have acceptable ID, but your name is on the voters’ list you will be required to sign a Declaration of Identity to receive a ballot.
  • If you do not have acceptable ID, and are not on the voters’ list, you will be asked to return with your ID in order to receive a ballot.


Types of Acceptable Identification Showing Name & Municipal Address

  • Ontario issued photo card, driver’s licence or motor vehicle permit (vehicle portion).
  • Cancelled personalized cheque, credit card or bank account statement.
  • Utility bill for hydro, telephone or cable TV, water, gas or a bill from a public utilities commission.
  • Statement of direct deposit for Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program.
  • Property tax assessment, income tax assessment notice, Child Tax Benefit statement.
  • Mortgage statement, lease or rental agreement.
  • Any document from a Band Council in Ontario established under the Indian Act (Canada).
  • Insurance policy or insurance statement.
  • Loan agreement or other financial agreement with a financial institution.
  • Statement of Employment Insurance Benefits Paid T4E.
  • Statement of Old Age Security T4A (OAS), Canada Pension Plan Benefits T4A (P), Canada Pension Plan Statement of Contributions.
  • Workplace Safety and Insurance Board Statement of Benefits T5007.
  • CNIB card or a card from another registered charitable organization that provides services to persons with disabilities.
  • Document showing residence at a long-term care home under the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007, issued by the Administrator for the home.
  • Hospital card or record.
  • Learn more about Ontario regulation 304/13 for voter identification under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 as amended.

Proxy Voting

Eligible voters who cannot cast their vote either at the Advace Polls or on Election Day may appoint a proxy to vote on their behalf.

A person wishing to appoint a proxy must do so on the prescribed Form 3 and applications must be approved by the Clerk or designate.

Proxy forms are available at the Clerk's office from Monday August 22, 2022 to Monday October 24, 2022 during regular office hours (8:30am-4:30pm). Forms must be completed in duplicate and the form must have an original signature on it - photocopies, faxes and emails will not be accepted. A person appointed as voting proxy can only act as a voting proxy for one person unless they are the spouse, sibling, parent, child, grandparent or grandchild of the person. Proxies may only be certified by the Clerk or designated alternate. 

Upon certification by tge Clerk or designate, an original copy is returned and must be presented at the voting location. The Proxy will be required to show identification and to take an oral oath at the voting location before they are given a ballot. Uncertified proxies will not be issued a ballot.

What is voterlookup.ca ?

Voterlookup.ca is an online service available to electors.  Using voterlookup.ca, electors can confirm and update their electoral information for the purposes of the Preliminary List of Electors for the upcoming municipal and school board elections.

Who administers voterlookup.ca?

The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) administers voterlookup.ca. MPAC is a not-for-profit corporation mandated by the Government of Ontario to conduct property assessments for tax purposes on behalf of municipalities, and is legislated to provide municipalities with a Preliminary List of Electors in a municipal election year.  This list is used by Municipal Clerks to produce the final Voters’ List used for the election.

What is enumeration?

Enumeration is another word for compiling a list.  Information confirmed and collected through voterlookup.ca will be used to compile information for the purposes of preparing the Preliminary List of Electors that MPAC is legislated to provide in support of municipal and school board elections.

Why should I use voterlookup.ca?

The information confirmed and collected through voterlookup.ca will be used to compile the Preliminary List of Electors that MPAC is legislated to provide in support of municipal and school board elections.  The Municipal Clerk uses this list to create the final Voters’ List.  Confirming your elector eligibility now will make for an easier process when it is time to vote.

Can I still vote in the upcoming municipal election if I don’t register at voterlookup.ca? 

Yes, although you will have to bring required proof as you may be asked to provide this.  See above tab "Identification to Vote"

Is voterlookup.ca available in French?

All the features of voterlookup.ca are available in French.

What information do I need to provide to register at voterlookup.ca?

You will need to provide the name of your city/town/village, full name, date of birth and either your property address and; or assessment roll number.

What do I do if voterlookup.ca tells me my information is not registered in the system or I have concerns/disagree with the information provided?

Do I have to register on voterlookup.ca?

There is no legal requirement to confirm your elector eligibility using voterlookup.ca.

Why has a new system been introduced to compile the information used to create the final Voters’ List?

voterlookup.ca enables electors to actively participate in ensuring that their electoral information is accurate and up-to-date for the upcoming municipal and school board elections through the flexibility of an online service. voterlookup.ca is replacing the traditional Municipal Enumeration Form mail-in system that was less efficient and less effective in gathering information.

Is this project related with voting in the upcoming provincial election?

No. voterlookup.ca is an online service used to compile information for the Preliminary List of Electors that MPAC provides to support municipal and school board elections that will occur on October 24, 2022.

Will my information be secure online?

voterlookup.ca was created harnessing the latest technology and designed using the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario Privacy by Design principles. The site has been thoroughly reviewed by MPAC’s legal counsel and our Freedom of Information Manager to ensure it meets the requirements in the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

How does voterlookup.ca differ from the door-to-door or enumeration forms through the mail?

voterlookup.ca is a more efficient method of collecting voter information, replacing the previous paper-driven process. The site features a declaration component which requires the user to verify that the information is ‘true and accurate.' This approach is no different than other data collection methods employed in the past including, door-to-door visits, telephone calls or the enumeration form mail-out. 

How does the authentication work for voterlookup.ca?

voterlookup.ca uses a declaration based on legally enforceable statements presented to each user.  Specific information entered by each user on voterlookup.ca has to match-up to existing data maintained by MPAC before users are permitted to add their name or apply changes to their information.

Will my personal information be shared or sold?

Information from voterlookup.ca is provided to municipalities in the Preliminary List of Electors for the sole use of the upcoming municipal and school board elections. MPAC takes privacy seriously. Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act requirements state that information shared with MPAC for electoral proposes may only be shared with other electoral agencies.
