Landfill Location and Hours

10443 Coyne Road, Dutton Dunwich

Hours of Operation:
Monday & Thursday 8:00am-10:00am
1st & 3rd Saturday of the month 8:00am-5:00pm
*Valid Photo ID required at the Landfill for proof of residency

Items Accepted at the Landfill:

  • Appliances (a $40.00 fee applies for each appliance that has not had ozone depleting substances removed)

  • Electronics (drop off point for recycling, see list below for acceptable items)

Items Not Accepted at the Landfill:

  • Bagged household garbage (collected curbside)
  • Blue box recyclables – including cardboard (collected curbside)
  • Pesticide & fertilizer containers (collected at Agris Co-op)

Garbage and Recycling Schedule

Garbage and Recycling needs to be curbside by 7:00am for collection. Collection routes subject to change without notification.

  • Tuesdays (Blue): North of Highway 401, Caledonia I & II and Bobier Villa
  • Wednesdays (Green): South of Highway 3 (Talbot Line)
  • Thursdays (Orange): Between and Highway 401 and Highways 3 (Talbot Line) inclusive, Iona, Iona Station and Wallacetown
  • Fridays (Pink): Dutton

Notices of Service Disruptions

Garbage Collection

Garbage is collected curbside WEEKLY

You may receive an orange sticker for non-compliance if:

  • Garbage bag exceeds the 20kg (44lb) limit
  • Unacceptable material for collection, including hazardous waste, medical waste and bulky items
  • Garbage loosely placed in garbage can and not in bags
  • Furniture of any kind is not accepted
  • Broken glass and sharp objects must be placed in a container/box and labelled as such – not in garbage bags
  • Garbage bag exceeds the 2 bag limit and does not have a bag tag

Bag Limit

  • Residential: 2 bags/week
  • Commerical: 15 bags/week
  • For each additional bag you will need a bag tag.

Bag Tags $2.50 each

  • Available at the Municipal Office, 199 Currie Road, Dutton
  • Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm

NOTE: Bag tags do not expire! Purchase them ahead of time so you don’t get caught without one when you need it.

If you are unable to come in to the Municipal Office during open hours to purchase bag tags, you may leave cash or cheque (with your name and address) in the drop box at the Mary Street entrance and they will be mailed to you.

Recycling Collection

Recycling is collected curbside BI-WEEKLY

Additional Blue Boxes are available at the Municipal Office for $5.00 each

You may receive an orange sticker for non-compliance if:

  • Blue box exceeds the 20kg (44lb) limit
  • Unacceptable materials for collection were in your blue box, including Styrofoam, oil or antifreeze containers, plastic bags, bubble wrap, toys, ceramics, paper towels
  • Blue boxes are not sorted into separate bins for paper and for containers
  • Cardboard must be broken down to 60cm x 60cm (2’x2’)

The Municipality uses a 2-stream recycling system separated into Paper and Containers 
"Sort It Right"  

Paper Blue Boxes includes:

  • Magazines, catalogues, phone books, soft and hard cover books (remove hard covers), household paper, boxes, tubes, egg cartons, newspapers, flyers, carboard boxes (flattened and broken down 60cm x 60cm).

Containers Blue Boxes includes:

  • Milk cartons, juice boxes, carboard cans, empty aerosol cans, plastic bottles, plastic tubs, plastic jugs, plastic clamshell containers, glass bottles & jars, steel & aluminum cans, empty metal paint cans, aluminum foil and pie plates, spiral wound (cardboard) cans, ice cream tubs, blister packaging, Tim Hortons cups (lids separated – also a container) – REMEMBER! If it can hold a liquid, place it in the containers box.

Items that DO NOT belong in the Blue Box:

  • Styrofoam, ceramics, plastic bags, bubble wrap, children’s toys, paper towels, napkins, toilet paper (the cardboard tube IS recyclable), tissue paper, chip bags, wrapping paper, ribbon, propane tanks & cylinders.

    • CleanFarms encourages farmers to return their empty pesticide containers to site such as Agris Co-op in order to recycle empty pesticide containers into valuable new products, farmers are asked to triple or pressure rinse containers and remove the cap and booklet (but leave label on)

Please DO:

  • Place yard waste at the curb by 7:00am – note crews will only make one pass on each street
  • Use compostable paper bags
  • We accept: plant trimmings, brush, leaves, pumpkins, grass clippings
  • Brush (sticks and twigs) must be less than 10cm in diameter and 1m in length – tie in bundles with twine
  • Maximum weight per bag is 20kg (44lbs)

Please DO NOT:

  • Use plastic bags (compostable included)
  • We do not accept: kitchen scrap, sod, rocks, dirt/soil, large branches, tree stumps, railway ties, painted or treated wood, flower pots/trays, animal waste

Backyard composters are available for purchase at the municipal office for $42.00 +HST

Household Hazardous Waste

Acceptable Items:

  • Paint/Pigments/Coating Residues: stains, marine coatings, automotive paint, driveway sealer, urethane, epoxy paint, pruning paint, roof coatings
  • Aerosols: spray paint, cleaners, polishes, Raid, 1lb propane cylinders (camping)
  • Misc. Waste Inorganic Chemicals: pool chemicals, bleach, TSP, photo chemicals
  • Misc. Waste Organic Chemicals: transmission fluid, car wax, car polishes, windshield antifreeze, kerosene, glues, varsol, mineral spirits, thinners, drywall compound, caulking, degreaser, wood preservatives, resins, epoxies
  • Pesticides & Herbicides: Round UP, Black-leaf 40, 2-4D
  • Waste Oils & Lubricants, Fluorescent Tubes/Bulbs, Batteries, Fire Extinguishers, Used Tires (on or off rims), Electronics

Other Acceptable items:

  • Kitchen & Bathroom Items: oven cleaner, drain cleaners, mercury thermometers, window cleaner, tub & tile cleaner, carpet cleaner, ammonia, nail polish/remover, floor polish/wax
  • Garage Items: motor oil, brake fluid, oil filters, body repair products, acid batteries, gasoline/diesel
  • Workshop Items: rust remover, alkaline batteries, varnish, shellac, primer, rechargeable batteries
  • Garden Items: fertilizer, insecticides, rat poison, moth balls, fungicide

Items NOT Accepted:

Commercial waste; farm chemicals

  • Large containers WILL NOT be accepted. Containers MUST be able to be placed inside of a 45-gallon drum
  • Used oil containers MUST be sealed and MUST be able to be handled by one person.

Other Unacceptable Items:

  • Ammunition, flares – call local police
  • Industrial/commercial/institutional (ICI) wastes – call a hazardous waste company
  • Biological wastes – call a biological waste company or Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks
  • Non-propane gas cylinders – return to distributor
  • Sharps (needles, syringes) – return to pharmacy
  • Smoke detectors

Material Recycling Facility (MRF)

The Municipality of Dutton Dunwich has entered into an agreement with the London Material Recycling Facility (MRF) to process our recyclables May 1, 2012. This is where your blue box recyclables are further sorted and shipped to processing mills (paper mills, steel mills, etc.).
