 Dogs and Cats

Stray Dogs

If you see a dog running at large, please contact By-Law Enforcement at 519-762-2204 or email bylaw services

For after hours please call the OPP non-emergency line 519-631-2920 or (24/7 anywhere in Ontario) 1-888-310-1122

Dangerous Dogs

A dangerous dog is a dog that has bitten or injured a human being or domestic animal; or that has been threatening or aggressive towards a human being or domestic animal.

For more information, please refer to the Municipality's bylaw.

Cats

The municipality does not license cats.

 Dog Tags and Fees

Residents are required to purchase their dog tags each year.  Tags are available at the municipal office at 199 Currie Road. Invoices are sent out in January and fees are due June 1st. Dog tags are added to municipal taxes after June 1.

Fees are: 

  • Dog tag (up to 3 dogs) $40.00
  • Late fee after June 1 $10.00 per dog
  • Kennel license is $120.00
  • Replacement tag - $10.00
Lost Pet
To report a lost pet, contact Humane Society London & Middlesex at 1-877-909-0519. If the pet has already been called-in or picked-up by By-Law Control, they may be able to identify your animal right away. Lost pets are posted on their website.
Animal Welfare

Animal Cruelty and Welfare is regulated by the Province of Ontario.  For more information about Animal Welfare in Ontario.  To report Animal abuse or cruelty please call 1-833-926-4625.

Coyotes

People and wildlife live side by side and coyote sightings are common place in rural Ontario, even in built up areas.  If you see a coyote, keep your distance and the animal will most likely avoid you.

Sick or Injured Animals

Salthaven Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Centre can help you, if you find wildlife that is in distress. Please contact them right away so the animal can get the help it needs. Phone: 519 264-2440 or email.

Another Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation will take in injured or orphaned wild animal, rehabilitation and returning them to the wild. Phone: 519-868-1937 or email. 

 Disease

Avian Influenza

There is a current rise in H5N1 Avian Influenza Cases. If you discover a deceased wild bird in your backyard or park, do not handle the animal, and call the Canadian Cooperative Wildlife Health Centre at 1-800-673-4781. For more information visit The Ministry of Health and Longterm Care Website.

Distemper/Rabies

If you have any concerns with wildlife acting in an unnatural way, please contact the following trapper (fees are applicable) who will manage them in a humane way:  Dave Heyblom - Home (519) 764-2688  or Cell (226) 374-5176

  • Humane nuisance animal removal of racoon, possums, skunk, groundhog, muskrat, beaver and feral cats
  • Preventive screening installation available for skunk and groundhog burrowing.
  • Livestock predator control of coyote and fox.
