Monument Installation and Inscription

To arrange the installation or inscription of a monument, please complete the Monument Installation Form and Send an Email.

 Arranging a Burial (Interment)

To arrange an interment in a municipally owned cemetery (Fairview, Black's, or McKillop) the following documentation is required:

  • Original burial permit or original certificate of cremation
  • Completed interment order
  • Payment of outstanding fees

A minimum of two (2) business days notice of interment is required by the municipality (with exception for religious beliefs.)

For pricing information, please see the Cemetery Price List. Please note that additional fees apply to Sunday, holiday and winter burials.

For an interment to take place, consent is required from the interment rights holder (owner of the plot.) "Interment rights" refers to the right to bury/inter human remains, including cremated remains. If you are named on the Interment Rights Certificate, you are the interment rights holder and can request a burial, have a marker or monument installed or have an inscription added to a monument, in accordance with the Cemeteries By-law.

If you need to purchase a plot, please contact the Municipal Office at: (519) 762-2204 ext. 28 or Send an Email

Care and Maintenance

Care and Maintenance (formerly Perpetual Care) funds were established by the Province of Ontario in 1926 as a requirement for cemeteries, as a means of having income to maintain the cemetery once the sale of plots was exhausted.

In 1991, Care and Maintenance was also added on the sale of monuments and markers. Owners of plots sold previously were given an opportunity to pay a one-time fee to be put in the fund.

The capital of these funds is not used.  The interest is used to maintain the cemetery – grounds and monuments.

Today, 40% of the purchase price of a lot is put into the Care and Maintenance funds.

If a non-profit cemetery in a municipality no longer has the means or volunteers to operate, it becomes the property of the municipality. The Care and Maintenance funds are transferred as well. Usually these are inadequate to operate the cemetery. For example, a Fund of $40,000 at 3% interest per year earns approximately $1200.

DONATIONS can be made to the care and maintenance fund of Fairview, Black’s or McKillop Cemeteries. A tax-deductible receipt will be issued by the Municipality.
