Landfill, Garbage and Recycling

Please check-in with the attendant at the shack. Proof of residency is required.

Hours of Operation

Tuesdays and Thursdays: 8:00am to 10:00am

1st and 3rd Saturday of the month: 8:00am to 3:00pm

Landfill Fees

Please consult the User Fees By-law:

Accepted Materials:
  • Construction and renovation materials
  • Tires, with and without rims
  • Recyclable electronics
  • Furniture and appliances
  • Household items
  • Scrap metal
  • Compost and yard waste
  • Car batteries

Clear bags are mandatory for bagged material.

Household garbage is not accepted.

Schedule

Residential bag limit - 2 bags/week

Commercial bag limit - 15 bags/week

The bag limit applies to garbage only. 

Bag Tags:

Bag tags cost $2.50 and never expire.

Pay at the Municipal Office, 199 Currie Road.

Bag tags must be:

  • Attached to the side of each garbage bag (over 2 bag limit)
  • Placed so they are visible to collectors
  • On bags no more than 20kgs (44lbs) in weight
Garbage Guidelines:

Have garbage curbside by 7:00 am

Place at curb no earlier than 6pm the night before pickup

Use plastic garbage bags 

Maximum weight per bag is 20kgs (44lbs) 

Do not place garbage collectables on snowbanks or on roadway.

Place broken glass or sharp metal in a sealed and clearly labelled cardboard box.

  • Magazines, catalogues, phone books, soft and hard covered books (remove hard covers)

Containers
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Plastic bottles, tubs, containers, jugs and pots
  • Steel and aluminium cans
  • Aluminium foil, plates and trays
  • Paint cans (empty)
  • Aerosol cans (empty)
  • Clear rigid packaging (remove paper an place in paper recycle box)
  • Cartons and drink boxes
  • Paper cups and their lids (separate)
  • Cardboard (spiral cans)
  • Ice cream, yogurt and frozen desert containers
Unaccepted Materials:

Propane tanks, plastic bags, styrofoam, paper towels and tissues (tubes and boxes are recyclable,) children's toys, ceramic cups and plates.

Hazardous or Special Waste

Household Hazardous Waste is accepted at the following times:

Wednesdays 10:00am to 2:00pm

Saturdays 8:00am to 3:00pm

Closed on Statutory Holidays

Site Rules:

All vehicles must report to the scale attendant

Children under 12 and all pets must remain in the vehicle

Properly secure loads, obey signs, do not scavenge

Accepted Materials:
  • Aerosol containers
  • Propane tanks
  • Fluorescent tubes and bulbs (LED and incandescent bulbs not accepted)
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Fertilizers and pesticides
  • Paints, stains, coatings
  • Cleaners and chemicals
  • Batteries (household and automotive)
  • Motor oils and filters
  • Acids
  • Mercury and thermometers
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Needles and syringes (in puncture-proof container)

All chemicals must be in original containers, sealed and capped.

Containers and contents must be left at the depot, no decanting.

Yard Waste

Next yard waste pickup day: May 26th, 2025.  

Have yard waste curbside by 7:00 am and leave out until collected, it may take several days for collection to be completed.

If you do not live within the limits of Dutton, Iona, Iona Station or Wallacetown, or you missed the collection date, bring yard waste to the landfill site located at 10443 Coyne Road.

Use brown, compostable yard waste bags. Fill only to the line and roll bag tops to prevent water from filling and overweighing the bag.

If using a can, cover and clearly mark as yard waste. Maximum weight per can is 20kgs (44lbs.)

Bundled brush must be no longer than 2 feet in length. 

Yard waste may be collected as part of the two (2) bag limit but will be disposed of as garbage. Residents are encouraged to wait for the next yard waste collection day or bring yard waste to the landfill site.

  • Plant trimmings
  • Leaves
  • Pumpkins
  • Grass Clippings
  • Brush (stick and twigs must be bundled with twine, 10cm or less in diameter, no longer than two (2) feet in length)
Unaccepted Materials:
  • Kitchen scraps
  • Sod/soil/dirt
  • Rocks
  • Tree stumps/large branches
  • Painted or treated wood/railway ties
  • Flowerpots or trays
  • Animal waste.
