Message:
This morning a series of thunderstorms and heavy rains passed through the region. While not all areas of the watershed saw heavy rains, some areas have reported between 25 and 40 mm already today. Weather forecasts are calling for additional rain and thunderstorms for this afternoon, this evening and into the overnight. Some forecasts suggest another 20 to 25 mm are possible, with even higher amounts possible due to the thunderstorms.
The heavy rains can create areas of ponding, standing water and localized flooding. Smaller watercourses, ditches, creeks and streams, that drain into the Thames River, or to the lakes, could be expected to rise and some could spill their banks into adjacent low-lying areas. Thunderstorms could cause flash flooding.
Currently, the Thames River is not expected to rise significantly in response to the rain. However, low lying areas adjacent to the river could still be impacted by ponding, standing water and localized flooding.
People should take extra caution and avoid the river, ditches, and streams. The combination of slippery banks and fast-moving water can be dangerous. Standing water can also present its own unseen hazards. Children and pets and livestock should be kept away from the water.
Officials will continue to monitor the situation and update this advisory if necessary.
This message will be in effect until June 20th, 2025.
